About the Water Detectives / WaterWise Program

The need for educating our children about the importance of water conservation — and, just as important, showing them specific ways to conserve — is a critical component to ensuring our future water supply. The Water Detectives Program provides teachers with educational materials to teach students about Texas water, while empowering them through hands-on activities that save water and help prevent land subsidence.

Since 1994, the Fort Bend Subsidence District has partnered with local cities, regional water authorities, municipal utility districts (MUDs) and other water industry professionals to bring the Water Detectives Program, a specially tailored version of the national WaterWise Program’s innovative classroom experience, to our local schools, reaching well over 6,500 third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students annually.

Educators

The Water Detectives Program provides teachers, students, and parents the opportunity to explore water and how to conserve this precious resource in Texas homes. In this program, students learn about the exciting world of water in addition to valuable ways to save water and money through in-class education and a take-home kit full of water-efficient products.

The Water Detectives Program is not only fun, results-driven and STREAMLINED, but also flexible — a program that has, over the years, evolved to incorporate teacher-requested elements and TEKS alignments.

We understand the stressors that teachers face today — the pressures of STARR/TEKS, limited class time for in depth projects – all reasons we chose this program. Waterwise addresses these issues and plans their curriculum accordingly.
