Compensation:

Salary is dependent on experience and qualifications. Range is $43,940 – $65,910.

Job Summary:

The Field Inspector conducts and records inspections of water wells and water infrastructure in support of the permitting, compliance and enforcement functions of the District.

Essential Functions:

• Properly document, organize, and file inspections, well reports, and other records related to the inspection of wells and correspondence with well owners.
• Conduct inspections of wells, including well construction, metering, piping, and meters follow the District Rules.
• Inform the public of the requirements of well registration and well permitting.
• Operate and maintain GPS monitoring equipment at numerous locations throughout the District region.
• Properly document and archive all inspection actions and monitoring observations.
• Complete all tasks as scheduled and prioritized.
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, principles, and procedures.
• Properly store and care for all tools, spare parts, equipment, materials, and supplies
• Operate a District Vehicle
• This position is classified as a safety-sensitive position.
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Proficient with MS Office Professional Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Access
• Good communication skills, including a working knowledge (written and oral) of the structure and content of the English and Spanish languages
• Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with people from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and temperaments
• Ability to take initiative and identify potential needs
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Good organizational and time-management skills
• Ability to work calmly under pressure
• Ability to convey information effectively and calmly during tense situations
• Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
• Ability to operate office equipment, including computers, copiers, fax systems, postage machines, folding machines, etc.
• Ability to lift and move objects such as heavy tools, pipe wrenches, and surveying equipment weighing as much as 50 pounds.

• Education/Experience: Associate’s degree required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public in English. Preference will be given to applicants who can communicate effectively in Spanish.
• Math Ability: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to identify improvements to workflow.
• Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Word word-processing software; MS Excel spreadsheet software; MS Explorer internet software and MS Access database software. Experience with the CityWorks platform is preferred.
• Certification: Valid Texas Driver’s License

The physical demands described here represent those that an employee must meet to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee may need to lift items of awkward size weighing up to 50 lbs in and out of District Vehicles.

Work Schedule:

This non-exempt position is eligible for an alternative work schedule. Regular work schedule is Monday – Friday with core hours from 8am-5pm.
